Handbuilding Techniques

We will introduce you to the handbuilding methods that are essential to master:

Pinch Pottery

You can create bowls and other decorative items by gently making clay shapes using your hands and fingers.

Coil Building

Form long coils of clay and then layer them up to create individual vessels, vases, and sculptures.

Slab Building

Use rolled clay slabs in order to make trays, mugs, and plates, as well as boxes, and other structured ceramic items.

The instructors will guide you step-by-step during the session, which makes it simple to follow and fun for those who are new.

Clay Types & Firing Process

Here at Creative hands pottery studio, we use premium stoneware clay, which is a versatile clay suitable for hand building. Stoneware clay is well known for its durability and its ability to produce useful pottery.

After your session, your ceramics go through multiple firing stages:-

  • Drying: This piece has been carefully air dried to eliminate moisture prior to firing.
  • Bisque Firing: The drained pottery is fired in a kiln in order to firm the clay before preparing the clay to be glazed.
  • Glazing: Food-safe glazing can be applied to improve the look and strength of your item.
  • Final Glaze Firing: The ceramic is fired again at the highest temperatures to create the most glossy and food safe surface.

Since each step requires carefully drying, firing and cooling, the final ceramic item is usually available for pickup in 15 days.
